A Solemn
Day: American History | Laveda D. Rockford
On this day
we remember the terror attacks that happened twenty years ago. The first time
that we, as a nation, was attacked on our own soil. Not that we have not had a
war here in this beautiful country that I call home, but it was an unforeseen
tragedy that lifted us up into a nation.
I watched
programming this morning that still brings tears to my eyes. My fellow
Americans jumping from buildings making the decision that most people in their
predicament would have weighted on their minds while the building behind them
was billowing smoke and fire into their immediate position where they had
always felt safe. Then there were the people in the streets that looked on in
terror as the buildings fell. These people had walked those streets many times
and never had they come to this type of imagery. The tears could be heard in
their voices while all of America watched, prayed, and sat solemnly waiting.
The Fire and
Police Departments marched forward toward the unimaginable without thinking
twice. Many gave their lives to save as many people as they could. Not only did
those survivors have to deal with what they went through, but the sacrifice of
those around them. Just remember, those loving arms do not blame you for what
happened that day. They were just doing their honorable job that God placed in
their path for good. I pray that no one who is a survivor of the tragedy we saw
that day feels any sorrow in what our heroes did for them. They were good men
and women who was trained to help those in need. It is not your fault. America
loves you and you were meant to survive.
Survival
today is to remember that day when terror seared our thoughts and mingled with
our history. It is our responsibility to tell our children about this day and
hopefully not allow it to happen on our soil again. Terror is a real enemy. No
matter what other people say, we have an enemy, and that, we know well.
In our world
today, as I watch what is happening in this beautiful land that I call home,
there is evidence of an enemy within ourselves. Division, race, and any other
thing that people want to spout off about that tears the bond of Americans
down. I pray that we do not have to experience that type of terror ever again
on this soil, even if it did unite us then. Before that, we were not that
divided. Everyone lived their life in the pursuit of happiness. People of all
walks of life felt like we had a future. Now, we have a pandemic that has
threatened our livelihood though it should not have been. Sorrow is our shield
as we watch what happened then, and sorrow is what I see in the face of many
today. The enemy is present and knows his time is short. There is a verse in
the Bible that says that.
“Therefore
rejoice, O heavens, and you who dwell in them! Woe to the inhabitants of the
earth and the sea! For the devil has come down to you, having great wrath,
because he knows that he has a short time.” – Revelation 12:12
The Bible
also tells us other things to take into consideration.
Be sober,
be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring
lion, seeking whim he may devour. – I Peter 5:5
And with
this, I will give you a scripture of encouragement. Jesus Christ said, …
“Let not
your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me” – John 14:1
And again,
“But the
Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach
you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.
Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I
give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” – John 14:16-27
This
scripture tells us that the “world” does not give us peace like He does. There
is no doubt in my mind that peace can only come from God. I pray for peace, I
long for peace and, yes, I receive peace yet this world that we live in is not
peaceful and we, as a nation, need to realize that.
There is no
time-out room in the global scale of things. You cannot sit someone in the
corner with a dunce-hat on to change adult behavior. Adults grow up through
their environment and our mind must deliver those type of remarks which can
lead us to how we combat such an enemy.
May God
bless you and keep you always.
With love,
