The Hope That Is Within Us | Laveda D. Rockford
The
Beatitudes
“And
Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the
gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of
disease among the people.” – Matthew 4:23
“And
seeing the multitudes, He went up into the mountain: and when He was set, His
disciples came unto Him: And He opened His mouth, and taught them, saying,
Blessed
are the poor
in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed
are they that
mourn: for they shall be comforted.
Blessed
are the meek:
for they shall inherit the earth.
Blessed
are they which
do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.
Blessed
are the
merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.
Blessed
are the pure
in heart: for they shall see God.
Blessed
are the
peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.
Blessed
are they
which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of
heaven.
Blessed
are ye, when
men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil
against you falsely, for my sake.
Rejoice,
and be exceeding glad for great is your reward in heaven.” – Matthew 5:1-12a
Jesus was
filled with compassion when He spoke these words containing the beatitudes.
Whether this brings you comfort or fills you with compassion for another,
remember these words and it will be a blessing for you.
Why did He
teach His disciples this saying? Could it be that compassion was going to be
one of the actions that would be needed to send the gospel out to the ends of
the earth? When you understand a small portion of God’s heart, you see Him in a
new light. In the gospel of peace, we love and have compassion upon all people,
not wanting anyone to perish, taking the hope that is within us and conveying it
unto all of humanity, therefore saving some. Please note that the word blessed
is used eight times in this scripture. The number eight means completion. Take
a look at this definition.

Pretty cool,
huh?
I just
thought this would be a good thing to share today. God bless and let the hope
that is within us carry us through.
Love always,
