THANKSGIVING: PREPARING FOR GIVING THANKS


This weekend my thoughts are about giving thanks. Thanksgiving Day is coming soon and we are all experiencing something different than we have ever known. While many may be having difficulty finding something to be thankful for, one thing that I am giving thanks for is a meek but promising new painting. I started painting today and though it is not recognizable, my hope is to finish well! 

Speaking about giving thanks, this is the season when we give thanks. 'Thanksgiving' is something most people do in America. So, I did a little research to find out about giving thanks.

In the Bible, the Jewish people had been in captivity for 70 years when the words ‘giving thanks’ to the LORD appears for the first time.

And they sang responsively, praising and giving thanks to the LORD:…    Ezra 3:11

While there are many scriptures instructing us to give thanks, did you know that the words ‘giving thanks’ to “GOD” is written only six times throughout the Bible?

It is interesting that the number six is associated as the number of man or the number of the humankind. That may sound odd, but when you think about it, humankind should be giving thanks on a daily basis.

While many cannot gather with family this Thanksgiving Day, we all have something to give thanks for. This year, Thanksgiving can be a time to give thanks to God for everything He has done for us through His Son, Jesus Christ.

And while you are giving thanks, please say a special prayer for those who are in need. There are so many that need our help, even if only in our prayers.

Ezr.    3:11            In praising and giving thanks unto the LORD;

Heb.  13:15           giving thanks to His name.

  Thanksgiving Thought During Thanksgiving, most people gather to share stories of their year and greet each other with great esteem. While Thanksgiving is not celebrated around the world, I wanted to tell those of you who will be gathering with your families this Thanksgiving to please remember to say a prayer for those people who are having a very difficult time. Though we, as humans, sometimes think that our little part of the world is the most important, we have to realize that there are difficulties the world around. Many people do not have money to fill their tables with a bounty of food. Other people do not have the money to go and see their family.   I Live For Freedom As you know, I have been on vacation. It began on Monday morning in Missouri, and we arrived in Maryville, Tennessee that evening. The Lord graced us with beautiful sunshine every day that we were there. The first day we drove into the Great Smoky Mountains, around curves, up mountains, and into valleys all green and yellow that introduced the early autumn season. The beauty of it all gave me a piece of awe that you can only get when you know the love that was placed into such a sight as this. This is where my Cherokee ancestors lived. While there, I had the privilege of visiting the Museum of the Cherokee Indian in Cherokee, North Carolina. Between June 1838 through March 1839, approximately 16,000 Cherokee were removed from their tribal lands and relocated to Oklahoma. It is said that approximately 4,000 Cherokee died.
