LAVENDER DELIGHT: AN OIL PAINTING | Laveda D. Rockford
Lavender Delight |
Lavender Delight is a beautiful interpretation of Good
Friday. About the sixth hour it became very dark and on the ninth hour Jesus
cried out, “Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?” which is, being
interpreted, “My God, why hast Thou forsaken Me?” (Mark 15:34)
And Jesus cried out with a loud voice and gave up the
ghost. And the veil of the temple was rent from the top to the bottom. (Mark
15:37-38)
And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, He said, “Father,
into Thy hands I commend My spirit:” and having said thus, He gave up the
ghost. (Luke 23:46)
It Is Finished! (John 19:30)
And when the centurion, which stood over against Him, saw
that He so cried out, and gave up the ghost, he said, “Truly this man was the
Son of God.” (Mark 15:39)
Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the
morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had
prepared, and certain others with them. And they found the stone rolled away
from the sepulchre. (Luke 24:1-2)
He is Risen! (Matthew
28:7; Mark 16:6; Luke 24:9-7; John 20)
Lavender Delight has about six yellow shrub rose flowers
spotted in red representing the bruising and strips which Jesus Christ suffered
through scourging. The nine lavender roses representing the ninth hour when He
commended His spirit into Our Father’s hands. The ninth hour, when Jesus Christ
died on the cross, was announced with darkness, an earthquake, and then
silence. It is Finished! Sin was paid for. Had redemption been achieved? Not
yet, therefore there are three Lavender rose buds that had not reached their
full potential on that dark and dreary day, but Sunday is coming. On Sunday
Jesus Christ arose and conquered death and secured redemption for us. You could
say this painting represents HOPE. Hope for the future!
Lavender Delight, a mystery designed on canvas.
God bless and Happy Resurrection Day!
