Pharez: A Christmas Story, Part 2 | Laveda D. Rockford
As the light grew more intense, fear arose among the shepherds.
Pharez averted his eyes and lowered himself into a submissive pose while
raising his arms up in an effort to protect himself. Then they heard these
words,
“Fear not, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great
joy, which shall be to all people.”
Pharez relaxed and looked up again and saw the most amazing
sight, an angel of the LORD. The glory of the LORD shown all around him. it was
the most beautiful sight Pharez had ever seen. “Am I dreaming,” thought Pharez,
but at that moment, he heard the voice again.
“For unto you is born this day in the city of David, a Savior,
which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the
babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.”
And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the
heavenly host praising God, and saying,
“Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good
will toward men.”
Pharez was amazed as the multitude of heavenly host
disappeared as quickly as they had come and the angel left them in stunned
glory kneeling on that hillside.
And the shepherds said one to another, “Let us now go
even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the LORD
hath made known unto us.”
With wonder, Pharez bounded down the hill into the valley
thinking about what the LORD had revealed to them. He remembered the words of
the angel, “… the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes.”
He knew what that was because he had wrapped his lamb up in
them when it was born not long ago. His lamb that he would use as a sacrifice
as long as there was no blemish. A sacrificial lamb. He ran over to his little
lamb and looked at him, searching his mind, and said softly, “The one.”
He picked Adaiah up and held him close. I must go see this
babe and let them see my lamb, Adaiah, pleasing to Jehovah,
thought Pharez.
And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and
the babe lying in a manger. And when they had seen it, they made known abroad
the saying which was told them concerning the child. And all that heard it
wondered at those things, which were told them by the shepherds. But Mary kept
all these things, and pondered them in her heart.
Pharez was filled with joy as he looked over at the babe. “How
pleasing to Jehovah,” he said, then added, “Praise be to God!”
And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God
for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them.
So, you see that a shepherd, though thought of as lower
class, was the ones who God chose to announce the arrival of their Savior. How
amazing is that?
The End.
I have always wondered what it would have been like to be a
shepherd on that hill that night. That is why I wrote this story. This little
story was written through their eyes. Though Pharez is a fictional character,
he was written in to explain what a shepherd did back in the day. Sometimes we
overlook the obvious. But all in all, every word in the original Christmas
story means something. Do not overlook the small little details, sometimes they
carry the greatest morsels.
I hope you enjoyed this little Christmas story. May God
bless each and every one of you. Praise be to God for Christ has come.
Merry Christmas!
Love always,
