THANKSGIVING IN PRAYER | Laveda D. Rockford
THANKSGIVING IN PRAYER
Thanksgiving is a time when we gather with family and friends to give thanks. The first Thanksgiving in America was to celebrate the harvest and the alliance of new friends. The years when this happened was difficult, but they found this moment in history to give thanks.
Many of us pray
before our Thanksgiving meal. When things are good, we pray – when things are
bad, we pray. And that reminds me of the time Nehemiah proclaimed a
thanksgiving prayer. In the book of Nehemiah, you can read about this.
Nehemiah was
heartbroken over receiving word of the spiritual and physical condition of his
beloved city. King Artaxerxes granted him permission to return to Jerusalem and
restore it to its former beauty.
After Nehemiah completes
the wall, he leaves Jerusalem for a time only to return and find that it had
fallen into apostasy. This urges him to reestablish worship through prayer.
“… was the
principle to begin the thanksgiving in prayer.”
Nehemiah
11:17b
While most of us
will gather with family and friends this week, please remember to give thanks
to God for what He has done for you and that we live in a free country where we
can worship God with thanksgiving.
God bless you and
have a blessed Thanksgiving!
Love you,
